Why Property Law is my Passion

Alexandra Benion shares her insights on training at Devonshires and how her passion for property has seen her qualify into our Real Estate and Projects team.

My interest in property began during my time at law school, but I was sure to keep an open mind when I joined Devonshires, undertaking seats in the firm’s Banking, Corporate and Housing Management teams, in addition to Real Estate and Projects.

The training has been great and I’ve loved every minute. Everybody in the firm is so friendly and welcoming to trainees, and I found that you feel valued right from the beginning. As part of a small trainee intake, we’ve supported each other but also been given the chance to meet people across the firm through various social, networking and CSR events.

Although I enjoyed the vast majority of work throughout my training, property stood out as the work I enjoyed the most, and as where I wanted to return to continue my career. I enjoy the tangible nature of property, that you can physically see the outcome of your work, whether that’s through a new planning agreement, acquisition or sale, as our team gets involved in lots of development work, including large regeneration schemes. As a lawyer, I also find that property law is technically challenging, meaning no two transactions, and no two days, are ever the same.

I am excited to be qualifying as a new solicitor in the Real Estate and Projects team. I am sure that it will be challenging, however I am looking forward to being in a position to take on more responsibility as a qualified solicitor and to continually develop my skills.

Devonshires’ culture has created an environment where I feel I can really settle, I have had a great deal of responsibility and so I am looking forward to forging my career here.
