Devonshires embark on a Corporate Partnership with The Sutton Trust, a leading organisation in the social mobility space in the UK.
As a firm, we have always been strong supporters of social mobility and have been involved in numerous initiatives designed to help young disadvantaged individuals with their education and training needs.
To continue our efforts, we have embarked on a Corporate Partnership with The Sutton Trust, which fights for social mobility from birth to the workplace so that every young person – no matter who their parents are, what school they go to, or where they live – has the chance to succeed in life.
Our partnership commenced in Summer 2021 and includes sponsorship of the ‘Pathways to Law’ programme – a two-year programme offering young people (aged 16-17) the opportunity to explore what entering the legal profession might look like through work experience, mentoring, and attendance at university events including a summer school.
To kick-start our partnership, Real Estate Partner, Triya Maicha participated in a networking session with A-Level and university students from across the country to share her journey into Law and answer any questions the students had. These ranged from how to get the most out of your Law degree and what qualities to look for in a firm when applying for that all-important Training Contract.
Following the event, Triya said: “This was a great session, which was no doubt invaluable to the students; it also allowed me to understand the thoughts and concerns a young person is feeling at this pivotal stage as they embark upon their own legal journey. I’m keen to attend more events like this as the honest conversations I had about my experiences hopefully provided useful insights to the students as well as boosting their confidence to network in the future.”
Comments from the students at this recent session included:
“I really enjoyed the speed networking session, it provided me with a great insight into the lives of legal professionals and they were happy to answer all of my questions!”
“Speed networking gave me the opportunity to develop and practice a wide range of transferable skills that will be useful in the future both in and out of a legal context.”
We are excited to work with The Sutton Trust and look forward to participating in future events.
