We are Corporate Partners of The Sutton Trust, a leading organisation in the social mobility space in the UK.
Our partnership commenced in Summer 2021 and sponsors the ‘Pathways to Law’ programme – a two-year programme offering young people (aged 16-17) the opportunity to explore what entering the legal profession might look like.
We previously hosted Sutton Trust work placements in February 2022 and August 2022. During the week commencing 13 February 2023, we were delighted to welcome our initial 2023 intake of 6 placements who sat across various departments within the firm.
The students worked as part of the team throughout the week and undertook various valuable tasks. They had the opportunity to shadow staff at all levels and network across the department. They were a great cohort, enthusiastic, positive and inherently curious about the law and developing careers within the law.

“We had a remarkable time at the firm this week. It was inspiring to work among a well-knit community where everyone gets on and relies on each other for knowledge and support. We felt very comfortable and assured that we could turn to anyone for advice if needed. Our time in the company was very enjoyable and lead to creating a much more defined picture of whether our sectors was for us. Despite this placement being a short week, we will certainly miss walking into the firm every morning to be warmly greeted by the Reception Team. Then proceeding to get the best coffee we have ever tasted and getting on with our work in such a hard-working environment. Manelle really enjoyed helping to start your new Sustainability and Decarbonisation initiative, which she hopes to be very successful!
Being at Devonshire’s has certainly raised our aspirations and driven us to work harder academically to ensure that we end up in the same place 10 years from now.
You all have such a fantastic work ethic and commitment to your job, and you all expressed the significance of your well-constructed cohesive relationships to each other. This was so inspiring to see. We are grateful to all who bought us lunch, gave us work, invited us to meetings, looked after us, spoke with us, gave us advice, networked with us, and taught us new things!
We will remember this experience for our lifetimes, and all of you who helped elevate it. We are incredibly thankful to all of you for giving up your busy hours. All the advice given has honestly stuck with us and changed our perspective on things. You all, made our experience working in law (for the first time) truly unforgettable.”
