“There’s a vast range of housing associations of different sizes and with different access to funding. What the size, the availability of grants and a consistent approach from the Government about how organisations should achieve net zero is key.” – Hannah Langford, Partner in our Real Estate & Projects team.
On Thursday 4 March, Partner Hannah Langford attended and spoke at the ‘Decarbonising the North West | The route to net zero’ virtual event.
With decarbonisation set to be one of the biggest housing issues of the next decade, Hannah joined a panel of speakers to discuss retrofitting existing homes to ensure they are low carbon and resilient to changing climate.
Hannah discussed the need for dedicated funding for Housing Associations to ensure they have the resources to become carbon neutral.
Hannah also commented on the policy vacuum surrounding decarbonisation and retrofitting, saying “There has been a policy vacuum which has made it difficult for Housing Associations and other landlords to plan for carbon neutrality. This is starting to fill now, Boris Johnson’s ten-point plan and the Budget were encouraging. We now know the big goals, but need more on how that filters through.”
