Areas of Expertise
Katy was a paralegal at Devonshires previously within the Real Estates and Projects Department, advising on all aspects of freehold and leasehold property transactions including conveyancing, lease extension, enfranchisement claims, statutory agreements, wayleaves, easements, auction sales. Currently she is working with Corporate team within the Banking, Governance and Corporate Department.
Experience
Katy has worked in property law for the past 9 years and was the previous lead fee earner for our enfranchisement team being the port of call for all queries regarding to lease extensions and enfranchisements whether on a voluntary or statutory basis under the Leasehold Reform, Housing and Urban Development Act 1993 or the Leasehold Reform Act 1967. As part of this work, Katy assisted in previous firms with the incorporation of freehold management companies and is excited to return to this area of law.
As a trainee within the Housing Management and Property Litigation Department, Katy worked on a number of ASB injunctions and disrepair cases, as well as stand alone cases involving service charge disputes at the First Tier Tribunal and a Civil Restraint Order heard at the Royal Courts of Justice.
Conferences
Whilst a paralegal, Katy has provided seminars to clients and internally on lease extensions and enfranchisement. As a trainee, whilst she has not delivered training herself, she has assisted with the preparatory work.
Education
Katy undertook her law degree at Cardiff University and then returned to London to undertake her LPC at the University of Law in Moorgate.
Personal
Outside of work, Katy is an active dancer and a well- known face on the London and Bedford folk and historical dance circuits. Over summer she was invited to re-create some Victorian dances from Queen Victoria’s Royal Dancemaster, in order for the book to be re-published.
On a more quiet note, Katy is an avid reader and a loud participant of the Devonshires book club. She is very proud of the private library she has amassed.
She also spends her spare time crocheting and sewing with some of her handiwork being part of The Longest Yarn, a project commemorating D-Day currently on tour throughout the UK.
Katy is also a member of Historic Royal Palaces and will often spend her free evenings or dance-free weekends at one of the palaces or attending their various events.
